We recommend a vet check within 72 hours after pickup or delivery. It’s not a “gotcha” rule—it's a simple way to protect your puppy and your family during the transition.
What the 72-hour check does
- Confirms your puppy is settling in well (heart, lungs, hydration, weight)
- Creates a baseline record with your veterinarian
- Catches issues early when treatment is usually easier
What to ask your vet
Bring any paperwork you received. Then ask your vet to review:
- Overall physical exam (eyes, ears, skin, joints)
- Stool check / parasite screening if recommended
- Vaccination schedule and timing
- Weight and feeding plan
Keep it calm: Try not to schedule grooming, long car rides, or a lot of visitors before the vet check. A quieter first few days usually means a smoother appointment.
If you can’t get an appointment fast
Book the appointment as soon as you can. Many clinics can do a “new puppy wellness” visit quickly if you call and explain you’ve just brought a puppy home.
How this ties into trust
Responsible breeding is about transparency and follow-through. Clear guidance after pickup is part of that. If you'd like to read more about our approach, visit About, or see what’s included on Puppies for Sale.
